Pistol permit holders may request that the maintenance of their firearms license record be transferred to another New York State county. Once the transfer is completed, the receiving county will become the office responsible for maintaining your permit record and processing future amendments.
Transfers are processed in accordance with New York State Penal Law §400.00(5).
How to Request a Transfer
To request a transfer of your pistol permit record, complete the Request for Transfer of Firearms License form and submit it to the Erie County Pistol Permit Department.
Required Fees
When submitting your transfer request, you must include two separate checks:
- $8.00 check payable to:
Erie County Pistol Permit Department - $5.00 check payable to:
The county you are transferring your records to
Both checks must be included with your transfer request for it to be processed.

Mail or deliver your completed form and checks to: Erie County Pistol Permit Department
After Your Request Is Processed
Once the request is processed:
- Your permit records will be forwarded to the receiving county.
- The new county will become responsible for maintaining your pistol permit record.
- All future amendments to your permit must be completed through that county’s pistol permit office.
