Kearns Hosts Grand Re-Opening of Erie County Auto Bureau in Depew

Erie County, NY – Erie County Clerk Michael P. Kearns, along with state and local government officials, Auto Bureau staff and local business leaders, cut the red ribbon marking the official Grand Re-Opening of the Erie County Auto Bureau located in the Urbandale Plaza in Depew.

“After undergoing extensive renovations and a lease renewal process, we are once again open to conduct your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) business here in Depew, stated Kearns. “In-person transactions no longer require an appointment. However, they are strongly encouraged, as appointments do take priority. The hours of operation for this Auto Bureau branch will be Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The new facility features new flooring, energy efficient LED lighting, updated electric service, a customer-only restroom, ADA compliant automatic doors and counters, as well as an updated interior & exterior painting and vinyl graphics, making the space more functional, efficient and environmentally pleasant for customers.

Innovative Property Services, the owner of the plaza, hired contractor Dave Bender, owner of BDM Construction and his team of high-quality remodelers to conduct the build-out. Streamline Designs created and installed all the interior and exterior window graphics.

Erie County Clerk Kearns also thanked New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Mark Schroeder and his team, “for their partnership and approachability throughout the reconstruction project.”

Customers can apply for their driver’s permits and licenses, obtain non-driver identifications, Enhanced or REAL ID compliant documents, registration of motor vehicles, motorcycles, snowmobiles, vessels and all-terrain vehicles, turn-in license plates and motor vehicle enforcement transactions.  As always, motorists are encouraged to “Renew Local” and patronize the Erie County Auto Bureaus when renewing their vehicle registrations and driver’s licenses.

Not too long ago this Erie County Auto Bureau was the most popular branch in the county and in turn conducted the most DMV transactions of all its offices. The Auto Bureau branch has been in the Urbandale Plaza for 30 years, since it originally moved from the Apple Tree Mall in 1994. Kearns added, “As technology evolves, we understand full well the push towards and convenience of online services, but motorists in Erie County know just how important it is to have a local, brick and mortar DMV branch that services our community in a timely, efficient, modern and pleasant environment.”

The Auto Bureau located in the Urbandale Plaza will serve motorists in the surrounding areas of Amherst, Buffalo, Cheektowaga, Depew, Lancaster and Sloan. This branch alone is projected to conduct over 100,000 transactions annually. It is the last location, of six fixed branches operated by the Erie County Clerk’s Office, along with three Mobile DMV Units in East Buffalo, Grand Island and Springville, to receive a much-needed, top to bottom transformation.
