Passport Process

The Passport process at the Erie County Clerk’s Office allows U.S. citizens to obtain travel documents for themselves or their immediate family members. You may apply for a Passport Card, a Passport Book, or both.

A Passport Card is wallet-sized and valid for re-entry to the U.S. from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Bermuda via land or sea.

A Passport Book is a booklet document valid for international travel by air, land, and sea.

You Will Need

  • Original or certified copy of U.S. birth certificate with raised seal listing both parents, previous U.S. Passport, or naturalization certificate
  • Current New York State driver’s license, non-driver ID, pilot’s license, state or federal work ID, student ID, or military ID
  • One 2” x 2” color passport photo (photos available on-site for $10)

The application may be obtained in advance at the Clerk’s Office or by visiting www.erie.gov/passports. You may complete the application in advance, but do not sign it. Your signature must be witnessed by a certified Passport Acceptance Agent.
