Please visit this webpage regularly for any updates concerning the status of onsite Visitation at the Erie County Holding Center and the Erie County Correctional Facility.
Due to the introduction of contraband through visits, all visiting rules and regulations are strictly enforced. Unless otherwise specified, all visits will be contact visits. Each inmate is allowed two hours of visiting time per week.
1. All visitors must present picture identification (NYS driver’s license; NYS non-driver's identification; driver's license issued by another state or province, U.S. passport card or passport, etc.)
2. Each inmate is limited to two (2) visitors in the visiting room at any one time.
3. An inmate’s visiting time will begin when they are seated in the visiting area with their visitor.
4. Visitors have three opportunities to clear the metal detector(s). They must do so properly dressed with shoes on, or their visit will be canceled. If a visitor has any form of metal in their shoes, they will not clear the detector and will not be allowed the visit. If a visitor has a medical implant (rods or pins) or a pacemaker, secondary metal detection devices will be made available. If it is determined that a contact visit would constitute a threat to safety and security of the facility, alternative arrangements may be made by the area Supervisor.
5. Visitors may be required to submit to a strip-search as a condition of their visit. A Superintendent's order may be issued justifying the strip-search of a visitor if there is reasonable suspicion they are bringing contraband into the Facility. If the visitor does not submit to a strip-search, their contact visiting privileges may be suspended for a determined period.
6. Drug detection dogs will patrol the lobby and visiting areas at unscheduled times.
IT IS THE POLICY OF THIS DEPARTMENT TO CHARGE ANY INDIVIDUAL FOUND INTRODUCING CONTRABAND INTO THE FACILITY.
Additionally, any visitor found guilty of introducing contraband into the facility will be denied all rights to visit in this facility. Any inmate or visitor who has had their visiting privileges suspended or restricted may appeal this decision, in writing, to the Superintendent's Office.
