The Erie County Sheriff’s Office initiated the Prescription Drop-off Box program in July 2013. Since its inception, the Sheriff’s Office has disposed of 40,000 pounds of drugs and 27,000 pounds of needles. The Sheriff’s Office expects the amount collected to increase at a significant rate with the additional new kiosks within ECMC.
The Erie County Department of Health provides funding for the various drop boxes and manages the disposal of the surrendered needles.
There are 29 sites throughout the county where citizens can dispose of prescription medications and used needles, to find a location nearest you please click the map for the Sheriff's Office locations or you can call 716-440-9558 for more information.
