TWO CHARGED FOLLOWING SMUGGLING ATTEMPT AT THE HOLDING CENTER

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia reports that a visitor and an incarcerated individual were arrested for conspiring to smuggle contraband into the Erie County Holding Center.

On July 18, 2023, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office received information that 23-year-old Ndia Kelly of Buffalo possessed contraband intended for incarcerated individual Drequan Vernon.

At approximately 3:55 p.m., detectives and deputies assigned to the Erie County Sheriff’s Narcotics and Intelligence Unit approached Kelly in the lobby of the holding center. Kelly admitted she possessed contraband. Kelly turned over three bags of K-2 (synthetic marijuana), one bag of tobacco, and some matches to a deputy assigned to the Jail Management Division.

Kelly is charged with a felony count of introducing dangerous contraband into a prison and a misdemeanor count of conspiracy. She was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center pending her arraignment.

24-year-old Drequan Vernon was arrested and charged with a felony count of attempting to possess dangerous contraband in prison and a misdemeanor count of conspiracy. Vernon is held at the holding center on weapons charges and a parole violation.
