Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia announces that the Red Cross of WNY selected three deputies assigned to the Civil Enforcement Division as this year’s Real Heroes law enforcement honorees.
On February 28, 2023, Sergeant Lincoln and Deputies Retzlaff and Jones were enforcing a court order at a village of Kenmore residence when they encountered an individual with multiple and severe self-inflicted wounds.
The deputies immediately administered life-saving measures until EMS arrived and transported the individual to Erie County Medical Center.
Sheriff Garcia stated, “These three deputies exemplify the ‘protect and serve’ motto of law enforcement everywhere. If not for their immediate actions, this individual would have certainly perished, leaving behind loving family and friends. I am extremely proud of Sergeant Lincoln and Deputies Retzlaff and Jones for their heroism. They are true public servants and heroes.”
For their quick and heroic actions, Sergeant Lincoln and Deputies Retzlaff and Jones will be honored at the Red Cross of WNY’s 5th Annual Real Heroes ceremony in November.
