INCARCERATED INDIVIDUAL RECEIVED EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE AT THE HOLDING CENTER FOR AN APPARENT OVERDOSE

 

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia reports medical staff at the Erie County Holding Center revived an incarcerated individual with Narcan.

On July 12, 2023, at approximately 6:30 p.m., an individual experienced a medical emergency in the facility’s detoxification dormitory. A deputy immediately radioed for assistance.

Medical staff assessed the individual was experiencing the effects of an opioid overdose and administered three doses of Narcan. The individual regained consciousness and was breathing.

The individual was transported to an area hospital for additional medical treatment, and Chioefwas cleared to return to the holding center.
