BUFFALO/ALDEN, N.Y. – Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia announces the Erie County Holding Center and Erie County Correctional Facility have each been accredited in Health Services by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.
To earn NCCHC accreditation, the jails underwent a rigorous professional assessment, during which a team of experienced physicians and experts in correctional health care surveyed the facility for compliance with jail-specific standards. These standards involve patient care and treatment, health promotion, safety and disease prevention, personnel and training, special needs and services and medical-legal issues.
“I promised to the people of Erie County that I would modernize the Sheriff’s Office. Seeking and achieving accreditation is a key component of that,” said Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia. “We are adhering to the best practices as identified by experts around the country. I would like to thank Superintendent Michael Phillips, 1st Deputy Superintendent Sandra Amoia and our Division of Correctional Health for their hard work leading to this accomplishment.”
"In achieving NCCHC accreditation, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office has demonstrated its commitment to quality, standards-based correctional health care,” said Deborah Ross, CCHP, NCCHC chief executive officer. “Accreditation is a voluntary process, and we commend the Erie County Sheriff’s Office for successfully undertaking this challenge. The health of incarcerated people is a vitally important component of public health.”
