ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - Sheriff John C. Garcia commends the quick response of deputies working the Buffalo Bills detail today after they rushed to render aid to a patient in cardiac arrest.
The 68-year-old man collapsed on the south side of Big Tree Road while walking toward the stadium prior to this afternoon’s game. Deputies that we stationed on post near that location included members of the Medical Response Unit. The deputies performed chest compressions and administered an AED to successfully reobtain a pulse. They continued to provide care until Orchard Park Fire, Windom Fire, and AMR arrived on scene. The patient was transported to Mercy Hospital of Buffalo conscious and semi-alert.
Deputies were assisted on scene by the New York State Police and Orchard Park Police Department.
"Time and time again, our deputies step up to the plate when called upon," said Sheriff Garcia. “Members of our Medical Response Unit undergo training to respond to calls such as this one. They are tremendous assets to our agency and community. This outcome is yet another reminder that all of us would benefit from basic first aid training. You never know when you may need it."
