Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia reports the recovery of narcotics and drug paraphernalia from an incarcerated individual who admitted to swallowing the contraband before their arrest.

On March 14, Ruby Gerland admitted to a holding center Deputy that she swallowed ten baggies of heroin, one “8 Ball” of crack cocaine, a lighter, and a glass pipe before her arrest on March 8.

Gerland admitted to vomiting the contraband on March 10 and re-ingested the items on March 13. The lighter was discovered after a bowel movement, but the other items were still within her digestive tract.

The individual was admitted to Erie County Medical Center for a medical procedure.

The Sheriff’s Office is conducting a multi-division investigation, and administrative and criminal charges are pending.

Gerland is remanded to the Erie County Holding Center on $25,000.00 bail or bond for petit larceny – 2 counts, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and endangering the welfare of a child charges by two different law enforcement agencies.
