DEPUTY TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AFTER POSSIBLE FENTANYL EXPOSURE

Partner Administered Narcan

Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia reports that a Deputy was transported to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) for treatment following a possible exposure to fentanyl.

On January 14, at approximately 12:40 a.m., Deputies performed a traffic stop for vehicle and traffic law violations on Interstate 190 near Long Road. The Deputies’ investigation discovered 34-year-old Andrew Wills’ license was suspended. They also discovered Wills was in possession of crack cocaine and heroin.

While processing the seized narcotics, a Deputy began showing signs of exposure to fentanyl. A fellow Deputy administered Naloxone (Narcan), and the stricken Deputy was transported to ECMC for additional treatment.

Wills, a resident of Lockport, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and circumventing a mandated interlock device. He is also charged with vehicle and traffic law violations for broken glass and operating a vehicle without a license.

Wills was processed and released with appearance tickets.

The Deputy was released from the hospital.
