Buffalo, NY – Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia reports that a deputy was injured in a crash on July 23, 2023, while responding to a violent domestic incident in the town of Holland.
At approximately 10:07 p.m., deputies responded to a crash on Genesee Road in Sardinia. Along the stretch of Genesee near Savage Road, Deputy Ellis maneuvered to avoid hitting deer in the road. The marked patrol vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole.
Deputy Ellis was flown to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Sheriff Garcia wishes to thank the Chaffee-Sardinia Volunteer Fire Company members for responding and treating Deputy Ellis.
The Sheriff’s Crash Investigation Unit continues to investigate the incident.
Deputy Ellis was later released from the hospital.
