Bernice will delve into Buffalo's unique architectural landscape and its enduring historic legacy, offering insights into how our city’s past continues to shape its present.

Louise Bethune: A Trailblazer in Architecture

In addition, throughout the month of May, the TR Inaugural Site will host a special exhibit honoring Louise Blanchard Bethune, widely considered the first professional woman architect in the United States. This groundbreaking woman not only shaped the architectural landscape of Buffalo, but also paved the way for future generations of women in the profession.

Bethune’s most significant architectural achievement, the Hotel Lafayette, was designed in 1899 in anticipation of the 1901 Pan American Exposition. This iconic structure stands today as a testament to her brilliance and vision.

Don’t miss this special exhibit on Louise Bethune’s life and work, included with all tours of the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site. Visit the Exhibition Room to learn more about her legacy through fascinating artifacts, photographs, and displays. The exhibit runs through the end of May and is sure to inspire!
