Dr. Carrie Stiver

Dr. Carrie Stiver is a museum administrator, scholar, conservator, and Executive Director of Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village (BNHV) in Amherst, NY. Prior to this role, she served as Director of Conservation at the Strong National Museum of Play and Owner and Principal Conservator at Gateway Conservation. 

Dr. Stiver holds a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Humanities from Brock University, M.S. in Art Conservation from the University of Delaware, C.A.F. in Advanced Preservation from Simmons University, and B.A. in Art History from Southern Illinois University. Her doctoral research examined the development of museums in America in the 20th century and how the museum industry’s past actions continue to impact museums’ relationships with their communities today. Her work today is driven by a continued passion for understanding and strengthening museum-community connections, and a strong belief in the transformative power of understanding one’s own history and that of their community.
