Five Other Erie County Municipalities Also Receive Funding, Along with Neighboring Counties
ERIE COUNTY, NY— Erie County has been awarded $22.7 million in funding by the BRIDGE-NY initiative as part of more than $484 million in assistance awarded to communities across NYS. The funding will power 216 individual projects statewide, including seven Erie County bridge projects along with one project each in the cities of Buffalo and Lackawanna, one in the Town of Concord, one in the Town of Orchard Park, and one in the Town of Aurora. The funding, made possible through formulated funds from the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, is intended to harden critical infrastructure and boost communities’ resilience to the effects of climate change.
“Bridge infrastructure is both critical and expensive, vital to our community and costly to repair. This funding from BRIDGE-NY will aid Erie County immensely in repairing our bridges and I thank Governor Hochul for this investment in public safety as well as President Biden and Congressional Democrats for passing the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Act that made these improvements possible,” said Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz. “Climate change is a reality and is particularly hard on our infrastructure, which is out there taking a beating from Mother Nature and vehicle traffic every day of the year. Thanks to Governor Hochul, the WNY Region received the largest awards in this round of funding and residents and motorists in the municipalities receiving this aid will be happy to see these improvements taking place.”
