The New York State Department of Transportation has awarded the Town of Clarence $5 million to construct sidewalks throughout the Clarence Center hamlet to improve pedestrian accessibility and walkability. This project will result in over nine miles of new sidewalks being installed. Currently, sidewalks are intermittent and not located on both sides of all roads in Clarence Center.
“Sidewalks serve an important purpose,” said Town Supervisor Patrick Casilio. “They improve pedestrian accessibility and give pedestrians a safe and dedicated place to walk.”
Supervisor Casilio said the Clarence Center sidewalk project is part of the town’s extensive plan to install more sidewalks. The town was awarded $3.5 million for the construction of sidewalks on Sheridan Drive, which will add over five miles of five-foot-wide sidewalks that will link Transit Road to Main Street, and allow safe pedestrian access throughout. Construction of sidewalks on Greiner Road from Eastbrooke Place to Anfield Road will provide pedestrian access to Fogelsonger Park from adjacent neighborhoods and ultimately from Transit Road
The latest funding was made available through the Federal Highway Administration and administered by the New York State Department of Transportation and is provided through the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program, and the Carbon Reduction Program.
