Town of Clarence partners with Town of Cheektowaga, GObike Buffalo on trails feasibility study

The Town of Clarence is continuing to build out its bike trail network.

The Town of Clarence Department of Planning & Zoning has partnered with Gobike Buffalo and the Town of Cheektowaga on their trail feasibility study, as it considers outside linkages to our robust existing trail network.

Director of Community Development Jonathan Bleuer said the town has long sought trail connections. “We continue to build out our own network: the West Shore Line extension is being constructed along Wehrle Dr., the Northwoods Trail construction bid was approved by the Clarence Town Board on Sept. 13, and the Spaulding Green Trail extension is nearing the final design stage.

Thus far, we have been hampered by the lack of Peanut Line Trail extension through Amherst, and the lack of West Shore Line Trail extension through Cheektowaga. It is encouraging that both Amherst and Cheektowaga are realizing the importance of regionally connected trails.”

Clarence residents are encouraged to take the GObike survey: https://gobikebuffalo.org/project/cheektowaga-trails-feasibility-study/. The survey includes analysis of the Clarence Pathway Buffalo Extension. At nearly eight miles, this corridor is the longest segment in the Feasibility Study, spanning from Bailey Ave. in Buffalo to Harris Hill Rd. in Lancaster. Proposals for the corridor include on-road enhancements along Harris Hill Rd. and Wehrle Dr. and off-road facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.

Among the survey questions are, What amenities would you like to see on the trails? What transportation opportunities would become possible if the trails are constructed? Answers will help local governments and GObike to determine a path forward.
