In recent weeks, the Town of Clarence has experienced a noticeable increase in vehicle break-ins and thefts. The Town Supervisor’s office, in collaboration with the Erie County Sheriff's Office, is addressing these concerns and reminding residents to take essential precautions to safeguard their property.
While the sheriff's office is actively investigating these incidents and increasing patrols in affected areas, residents are urged to exercise vigilance to prevent becoming a victim of these crimes. The following tips can help enhance the security of your vehicle and belongings:
- Always lock your vehicle: Ensure that your car doors are locked and that all windows are closed before leaving your vehicle unattended.
- Remove valuables: Avoid leaving valuable items such as electronics, wallets, or personal identification in plain sight inside your car. If you must leave items in your vehicle, secure them in the trunk or another hidden compartment.
- Check your surroundings: Be aware of your surroundings when parking your vehicle. Choose well-lit and populated areas whenever possible, and consider leaving your outdoor lights.
- Report suspicious activity: If you observe any suspicious behavior or activity around vehicles, promptly report it to the Erie County Sheriff's Office.
Town Supervisor, Patrick Casilio emphasized, “The safety and security of our community are of utmost importance. While our dedicated law enforcement officers are working diligently to address these incidents, we ask all residents to be proactive in protecting their property.
“The Town of Clarence remains committed to working closely with the Erie County Sheriff's Office to enhance safety measures and ensure that our town remains a secure place to live and work,” Supervisor Casilio said. The public’s cooperation and attention to these precautions play a vital role in reducing crime and maintaining the quality of life in our town.”
