New York State Department of Transportation crews have installed new School Zone speed limit signs in front of Clarence High School (9625 Main St.). The new 35 mile per hour speed limit will be in effect on school days during peak hours between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The zone is 1,320 feet long, the maximum allowed by New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. The current speed limit in front of the school is 45 mph.
“We are grateful to the state Department of Transportation for approving our request to lower the speed limit in front of the high school,” said Town of Clarence Highway Superintendent James A. Dussing. “The reduced speed limit will improve safety for students, school employees, and motorists alike.”
The new speed limit will go into effect on Tuesday, Sept. 5, the first day of school for the 2023-24 academic year.
