LEGISLATOR CHRIS GREENE LEADS EFFORT TO ACQUIRE FIRST RESPONDER EQUIPMENT TO AID IN STORM EMERGENCIES

Erie County Legislator Chris Greene joined the Clarence Fire District in announcing the acquisition of all-terrain off-road tracks to assist in responding to emergencies, especially during inclement weather.  Legislator Greene sponsored the Fire Department in its effort to acquire grant funding for the purchase.

“One thing we learned from last December’s deadly blizzard was that Erie County first responders didn’t have the necessary equipment to respond effectively to the storm emergency. These tracks will allow our volunteer firefighters and first responders to more ably and effectively reach those in need.  If there’s one thing we know about Buffalo and Western New York is that we will have bad winter weather.  Now we are better prepared to respond to issues that will inevitably arise,” said Erie County Legislator Chris Greene.

“These tracks provide us more flexibility so that we don’t have to rely on very busy plow drivers to first clear roads in emergencies.  Having the proper equipment that can get through significant snowfall accumulation means we can respond more quickly.  Sometimes in emergencies, seconds count and these tracks allow for an expedited response,” said Clarence Fire District No. 1 Fire Chief Brett Hanford.

The tracks allow for an additional 21 inches of ground clearance, aiding in storm preparedness, and improving the ability of first responders to more effectively and capably respond to crises.  Legislator Chris Greene sponsored the Clarence Fire Company in their efforts to acquire grant funding for the purchase of the all-terrain off-road tracks.

“These tracks are so important to have when dealing with weather related emergencies, or even responding to calls in difficult to reach places.  I’m grateful to our volunteer firefighters and first responders for always answering the call.  I have no doubt these tracks will help them in their efforts, and I’m hopeful this might serve as a catalyst for Erie County to provide our first responders the equipment necessary to better respond to emergencies,” concluded Legislator Greene.
