LEGISLATOR CHRIS GREENE HONORS VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER FOR HIS LIFESAVING EFFORTS

Erie County Legislator Chris Greene honored Harris Hill Volunteer Firefighter John Moulin with a proclamation at the January 25, 2024 session of the Erie County Legislature. Moulin was credited with saving the life of a runner earlier this month.

“John Moulin showed tremendous courage, heroism and dedication when he took quick action to help a runner who suffered a heart attack while participating in a 5k race on New Year’s Day,” said Erie County Legislator Chris Greene.

Moments after the start of the iRun WNY New Year’s Day 5k at Niagara Falls State Park, John Leszak, an active member of the running community, went into cardiac arrest. Moulin, who is a Clarence resident and 1st Assistant Chief at the Harris Hill Fire Department, immediately came to Leszak’s aid, applying CPR, which proved successful in reviving Mr. Leszak.  The victim was then transported to the hospital for additional treatment.

John Moulin’s lifesaving efforts on New Year’s Day marks the third time in the last two months that he has administered CPR to save the life of another human being.

“Assistant Chief Moulin is exactly the kind of guy that makes us proud to call western New York home. Like so many of our first responders, he is selfless and dedicated to his neighbors and community.  The fact he has helped to save the life of three people by administering CPR in the past two months alone should also serve as a reminder of how important it is for us to all learn CPR.  We never know when we might find ourselves in similar situations,” concluded Legislator Greene.
