John J. Gilmour is a native of South Buffalo who earned his law degree at the Cleveland Marshall School of Law in 2003. He began his law career as an Assistant District Attorney and Assistant Corporation Counsel. He left to start his own private practice in Lackawanna, and then moved on to become a partner at Gilmour & Killelea, LLP on Main Street in the Village of Hamburg.
He served as a delegate to the 8th Supreme Court District nominating convention. He currently serves as General Counsel for the Buffalo Professional Firefighters’ Union, Buffalo Police Union, Hamburg Town Police Union, Tonawanda Police Union, and Regional Counsel for the New York State Police Investigators Association. He was also selected as a Super Lawyer in New York State for 2019.
When he is not working, he volunteers his time coaching youth football and baseball. In addition to coaching, he sponsors several youth sports teams throughout the area. He has been happily married to his wife Kristin for 18 years. Together, they are raising their three children, ages 15, 13, and 10.
As the Legislator for District 9, John works hard for the residents of South Buffalo, Lackawanna, Hamburg, and Blasdell. Over the past four years, he has delivered over 2 million dollars for playgrounds, youth athletic fields, and senior activities. He also has been able to obtain millions of dollars in funding to improve roads and intersections throughout his District. He secured over 14 million in funding for police and public safety. He is also proud of the fact that he played a role in assuring that the Buffalo Bills will remain in the area for the next several generations of fans.
John is looking forward to continuing his efforts to improve the community he has been elected to serve. He vows to continue to fight for the much needed resources of his District.
