A Pleasant Round Is Likely Focusing On Our Local Sites
ERIE COUNTY, NY— As April begins Erie County golf courses are preparing to open and Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz is preparing to showcase our county golf courses with a high-profile visitor who loves to golf and spends most of his “waking” time doing it, Donald Trump. Putting and chipping notwithstanding, the importance of the visit is underscored by the topics to be discussed on the links: border economics and our relationship with Canada. Reinforcing the importance of that relationship is a key goal of the County Executive. In addition, keeping Trump’s notorious golf cheating under control will be a challenge. Likely solutions to that behavior are being kept private.
“For me, it’s about more than the golf. Our country is undergoing a difficult period, and this is a good opportunity to talk about it with the person who’s creating most of the problems. Obviously, he likes to talk a big game, about everything, but he can’t back it up. Let’s see who’s the better golfer on one of our Erie County courses. Slices and shanks will be on display for all to see,” said Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz.
Historic Grover Cleveland golf course is the likely setting for the matchup, named after an actual president and also the host of the 1912 US Open. The former site of the country club of Buffalo, the course offers a challenging mix of holes and a wide-open layout that the twice-impeached Trump, acknowledged master of the hand- and foot-wedge, should find challenging. The course is the only public golf facility in North America to be designed by two of the most famous golf architects of the early 20th century, Walter Travis and Donald Ross, with many recently rebuilt bunkers and other renovations.
Poloncarz continued, “Golf is a great way to clear the mind and work things out. We won’t be discussing secret military maneuvers via text, illegally freezing federal funding for senior citizens or keeping reams of sensitive national security documents next to your toilet. We’ll be demonstrating golf’s unique and age-old ability to bring people together while clearly showing who can play and who gets played.”
