Matthew is the Science and Operations Officer at the National Weather Service office in Buffalo, NY. In this position, he works at the intersection of research and forecast operations by investigating where and how we can improve our forecasts for hazardous weather, messaging to the public, and understanding of the atmosphere. He previously worked as a Meteorologist at the NWS weather forecast office in Cheyenne, WY for 6 years before arriving in Buffalo. Matthew has a B.S. in Meteorology from Penn State University and a M.S. in Atmospheric Science from Texas Tech University where he researched the distribution of lightning flash sizes within thunderstorms using observations and numerical modeling.
