Maple Day at the Park

Sugar Shack (Meeting location): Rte. 219 and 16, Genessee Rd., East Concord, NY 14055

Four fun activities (40 Min, each) that 60 guests will rotate through. There will be 30 minutes for lunch (bring your own) from 12 - 12:30 PM at the warming hut.

The program includes:

  • Sugar Shack: The maple production process: sugar content, evaporating sap, filtering minerals, taps and tapping, flavor and grading, bottling.
  • Visitor's Center Ranger/Forestry programming: pelts, skulls, tree/maple twig ID, forest pests (HWA, EAB, BLD), Parks handouts and info, etc.
  • Hike to sugar bush, trees breaking dormancy, energy storage in sugar, sap flow, vacuum system, hike back. (1-mile total round trip. Hike is optional.)
  • Show and discuss sawmill, tree felling/removal/milling, differences in wood and wood products, preservation, and care.

Space is limited; registrations will be taken in order received.
