Erie County Legislator Frank Todaro was on hand for today’s unveiling of a new Erie County Highway barn in Lancaster. The $9.2 million state-of-the-art facility replaces an outdated barn in Clarence.
“This new facility is in a better location to address needs throughout the region. In addition, it will be far more efficient and effective for our hard-working public works employees as they deal with snow clearing, road repairs and other infrastructure improvements,” said Legislator Frank Todaro.
The new barn is a 21,500 square foot facility, with another 2.500 square foot attached support suite. The steel building has vehicle repair bays, a mezzanine, welding area and wash bay. It also includes offices, locker rooms, secure storage, a break room and equipment rooms.
The new facility is located at 125 Cemetery Road in Lancaster. It replaces an aging barn in Clarence that was neither centrally located nor met the standards and needs of present-day public works department efforts.
“I’m pleased that this new highway barn is in Lancaster. The central location makes it easier for workers to get to the many communities whose roads they plow in winter and repair in summer. This was a good and necessary investment by Erie County, said Legislator Todaro.
