Minority Leader and Erie County Legislator John Mills presented a proclamation to the Collins Volunteer Fire Department on the occasion of the organization’s 100th anniversary. The Fire Company was formally established in April 1925 with the earliest equipment being a horse-drawn vehicle, outfitted with two 80-gallon tanks of water mixed with acid and soda capsules.
The Fire Department has relied on the generosity and support of the community, hosting events such as dances, carnivals, dinners, raffles, craft shows and its annual fund drive to sustain its mission.
“The firefighters with the Collins Volunteer Fire Department dedicate their lives to the protection of life and property, taking extraordinary risks to ensure their communities remain safe, as they have for generations,” said Legislator John Mills.
The Collins Volunteer Fire Department formally recognized its 100th anniversary on October 4, 2025 with a gathering where the organization also dedicated its new Truck 7.
