ERIE COUNTY, NY — Erie County Legislator Lindsay Lorigo recently stopped by Springville Youth Incorporated (SYI) to hear more about both the many services they provide and their planned expansion project. Legislator Lorigo provided five-thousand dollars to the organization in public benefit funds for uniforms and other items. SYI has served thousands of families and children in the area since their 1940 establishment with youth activity programs promoting health, social, educational, and character development. In addition, they operate a pool park, spray pad, playground and club house, providing care before and after school for children pre-k through 5th grade, as well as programming and sports leagues for middle and high school aged students.
“They help many families by providing a safe space for children to go before and after school. SYI is a great community partner. They have an active waiting list, which means they need additional space to accommodate the young people they serve,” said Legislator Lorigo. “I am pleased to support their efforts with public funds secured in last year’s county budget to ensure they can continue to serve families in the southtowns. Programs like these are vital to the health and development of our children.”
“We sincerely appreciate that Legislator Lorigo took the time to visit our facilities to better understand our needs, which speaks volumes about her commitment to listening to and advocating for the people she serves,” said SYI Executive Director Stephanie Bacon.
The expansion would also allow SYI to add adult-oriented recreational leagues, educational classes and community events.
