EAST AURORA- Erie County Legislator Lindsay Lorigo secured funding for the East Aurora Police Department to ensure they can safely and effectively respond to emergencies in the community. The first investment was for new tactical gear for SWAT training.
“This equipment allows the East Aurora police officers to receive specialized training, work more effectively with neighboring departments during mutual aid responses, and support other communities when additional resources are needed,” said Legislator Lindsay Lorigo. There will also be upgrades made to the department’s dispatch equipment.
“The costs of operating a modern law enforcement agency and 911 emergency dispatch center have increased significantly over the past two decades, largely due to advances in technology that are essential to providing the high level of service our community depends on,” said East Aurora Police chief Patrick Welch. “We are extremely fortunate to have the support of Erie County Legislator Lindsay Lorigo. Over the past two years, Legislator Lorigo has allocated more than $45,000 in funding to the East Aurora Police Department. These funds have been and will continue to be used to enhance our tactical response capabilities emergency dispatch center, speed monitoring equipment, and police e-bikes. We are grateful for this continued investment in public safety and for Legislator Lorigo’s commitment to supporting the men and women of the East Aurora police Department and the community we proudly serve.”
The East Aurora dispatch center also dispatches for 11 fire companies across six different towns. Upgrading their aging equipment will help ensure East Aurora has the tools needed to continue serving as a strong emergency response hub for the communities that rely on it.
