LEGISLATOR LORIGO SECURES FUNDING FOR BOYS & GIRLS CLUB SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS

ERIE COUNTY- Erie County Legislator Lindsay Lorigo secured funding for the Elma, Marilla, Wales Boys and Girls Club to ensure the safety of the community’s youth who participate in programming there after school and during summer recess.  The funding went towards a new lighted crosswalk between the club and the Iroquois Schools Campus.

“The lighted crosswalk has helped to significantly reduce the number of close-call incidents between motorists and club members trying to cross.  Investing in the safety of our community will always be a top priority and I am pleased to hear the new crosswalk has been working well,” said Legislator Lorigo.

“Legislator Lorigo has been an incredible supporter of the Boys & Girls Club of Elma, Marilla & Wales and, more importantly, of the children we serve. The funding for the new flashing crosswalk sign is especially meaningful to us because this has been a very real safety concern for our Club for a long time,” said Tracey Karp-Theal, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Elma, Marilla, and Wales.  “We have hundreds of children coming to our Club throughout the year, and we have experienced far too many close calls with vehicles while children and staff are trying to cross the street.  Even though drivers are approaching an area heavily used by both the school and the Boys & Girls Club, they don’t always slow down or recognize that someone is waiting to cross.”

Legislator Lorigo has also supported capital improvements at the Boys and Girls Club.

“We are very grateful that Legislator Lorigo listened to our concerns and helped make this improvement possible,” said Tracey Karp-Theal.
