We are now in the middle of road construction season. Several projects are planned or currently underway in the 6th Legislative District. That includes mill and overlay work on Shimerville Road from Roll to Clarence Center Road. Cold recycle with top course treatment is being done on Strickler Road from Main Street to Clarence Center in Clarence, as well as all East Ave in Newstead. County crews will also be doing oil and chip work on Tonawanda Creek from Route 93 to Burdick in Newstead, as well as Tonawanda Creek from Salt to Goodrich in Clarence, Goodrich Road from Tonawanda Creek to the Niagara County line in Clarence, and all of Nice Road in Newstead. Engineering projects include phase 1 of the New Road rehabilitation and Maple Road from North Forest to Flint. While I am pleased that Maple Road is receiving attention, anyone who has driven on Maple Road knows the issues are numerous and much more needs to be done. The Administration needs to make the proper repair and maintenance a priority, as it is a well-traveled road, and poor conditions make it less safe to drive. I also want to remind motorists to watch out for Erie County highway crews. As they work to repair our infrastructure, let us make sure they can return home safely to their families.
The Independence Day holiday is fast approaching. It’s a great way to kick off the summer season. You can enjoy the Fireworks in the Park at Clarence Town Park on June 30th. Festivities get underway at 5:00PM with patriotic music, followed by fireworks at dusk. In Newstead the celebrations begin on July 3rd at Veterans Park with food and vendors at 5:00PM followed by fireworks at dusk. On July 4th there are events all day at Russell Park. In addition, the Independence Day parade begins at 4:30PM and goes through the Village of Akron. In Amherst the Erie County Wind Ensemble will be performing July 4th at 7:00PM in Bassett Park.
Just a reminder for those interested that the Clarence Rotary Club is hosting its fourth annual Pickleball Tournament on June 20, 21st and 22nd at Clarence Town Park.
A happy 250th birthday to the United States Army. We owe all our veterans a debt of gratitude for their sacrifices. We remain free because of the brave. For 250 years the U.S. Army has fought to preserve those freedoms.
I hope all the dads enjoyed a happy Father’s Day. I am fortunate to have four great sons. It is my great honor and privilege to raise these young men. To all the dads putting your families first, thank you for working to ensure we have a kind, caring and involved next generation of leaders.
