$43,437 grant helps studio improve accessibility, renovate kitchen and bathroom areas
Starlight Studios and Art Gallery Supports Adults with Disabilities
ERIE COUNTY, NY— Better accessibility and updated, enlarged kitchen and bathroom areas are reasons to celebrate at Starlight Studios and Art Gallery on Delaware Avenue in Buffalo, a cooperative environment that supports adults with disabilities in their artistic development. Through technical assistance by professional artists, on-site and off-site exhibitions and other opportunities for representation and sales, the Starlight artists hone their artistic interests, become stronger advocates and better integrated citizens. Improvements to the site were made possible through an Erie County Cultural Capital grant of $43,437.
“Starlight Studio and Art gallery is a great example of what these cultural capital grants are meant to do,” said Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz. “This grant helps Starlight invest in and improve their facility, which in turn improves the quality of life of the artists who use this space. This is a win-win for Starlight Studio and for the community.”
The Starlight program was created in 2005. In addition to their studio practice, the participants enjoy urban walks, visits to museums, galleries, and natural sites. Starlight also hosts visiting artists in the areas of visual art, poetry, writing, storytelling, and media arts.
Carrie Marcotte, Starlight Studio and Art Gallery Director, said, “Starlight Studio was so happy to be awarded the Erie County Cultural Capital Funding. These funds enabled us to complete essential projects that expanded access for our artists and the public. We enlarged and updated our bathrooms and kitchen at Starlight Studio and installed electric door openers. So along with the greater access, we got an overdue facelift. Everyone could not be happier!”
Starlight’s street-level gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
