Submits Charter-Mandated Budget Revenues and Expenses Report to Erie County Comptroller; Report outlines total General Fund Budget, cost drivers, property tax levy/rate changes
Property Tax Rate dropping for ninth consecutive year, to $3.01 per $1,000 of Assessed Value; Full Proposed Budget to be Released on October 15
ERIE COUNTY, NY— The Poloncarz administration (“the Administration”) today submitted the 2027 Budget Revenues and Expenses Report (“the Report”) to the Erie County Comptroller, completing a charter-mandated action antecedent to the release of the full 2027 Proposed Budget on October 15. The county’s property tax rate is set to be pared again this year, by $0.08, to $3.01 due to robust assessment growth. The Administration has reduced the property tax rate nearly every year since taking office in 2012, from $5.03 per $1,000 of assessed value in 2012 to $3.01 in the 2027 Proposed Budget. That reduction of more than $2 keeps Erie County with the lowest tax rate in modern county history.
“Keeping the county property tax rate as low as possible year-to-year has been an ongoing goal of my administration and we are pleased to be able to lower that rate once again this year to continue offering real, tangible tax relief to property owners. Since 2012 we have lowered that rate by over two dollars, putting that money back into people’s pockets,” said Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz. “The 2027 Proposed Budget is a prudent and realistic document that accounts for the burdens and obstacles the federal government will impose on us through the Big Ugly Bill but also makes investments in the programs and services that matter to our residents. I look forward to releasing the full budget in two weeks.”
Included in the report are all Charter-required major expenditure estimates, which include Medicaid-MMIS, public assistance, pension obligations and employee and retiree health insurance, as well as all revenue estimates. Also included is the expected County Property Tax Levy which will increase by 3.5% to $327,118,990 as the allowable limit under the State’s property tax cap. However, because of assessment growth of 6.55% the County’s equalized full market value property tax rate will be reduced by an additional $0.08 down to $3.01 per $1,000 of assessed value.
The 2027 Proposed Budget will be released on October 15.
