ERIE COUNTY PROBATION OFFICER NAMED 2025 RECIPIENT OF NEW YORK STATE DIRECTOR’S AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE

Erie County Department of Probation employee Gina Doyle was recently named the recipient of the 2025 New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Office of Probation and Correctional Alternatives Director’s Award for Distinguished Service by a Probation Officer after she helped negotiate a peaceful surrender of one of her probationers earlier this year.

Doyle, a resident of Orchard Park, received the honor at the 2025 New York State Probation Officer’s Association Conference held earlier this year in Fairport.

In addition to being recognized at the statewide conference, Doyle was recently honored at a formal presentation of her plaque in front of the Erie County Family Court Building. Dozens of probation officers and other department employees gathered for the event. Matthew Charton, the director of the New York State Office of Probation and Correctional Alternatives, presented the plaque to Doyle.

Her efforts allowed the Town of Cheektowaga Police Department to take the probationer into custody without serious incident. Her negotiating skills included approximately 20 minutes of telephone communication with the probationer, during which she encouraged him to voluntarily surrender by using her caring demeanor and previous rapport with the individual.

“Gina’s action that afternoon was just another example of the outstanding work many of our Probation Department employees do day after day. Her exceptional service, dedication, and professionalism are well-deserving of such a prestigious honor,” said Erie County Commissioner of Probation Richard Robillard. “I nominated her for the award because she deserved to be recognized for her efforts not only that day but in her many years of service to Erie County. Her knowledge and insight into the individuals she supervises makes her an example for new officers and her commitment to the profession is unprecedented.”

Doyle has been employed as an Erie County Probation Officer since 2003.
