ERIE COUNTY, NY— The Erie County Department of Environment and Planning has announced that registration is now open for a Paint-Only collection event being held on April12th in Larkinville in the City of Buffalo. Start out spring the right way by recycling the old paint in your basement, garage or shed!  All Erie County collection events are free, but pre-registration is required. Registration can be completed online at www.erie.gov/recycling or by calling (716) 858-6800.  Appointments are limited and will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. The specific location for the event will be provided during the registration process.

The April 12th Paint-Only Collection is sponsored by GreenSheen, a company that makes new eco-friendly paint from recycled paint.  They will also accept stains, shellacs, lacquers, sealers, varnishes, and urethanes for recycling at this event.  Co-sponsors of this Paint-Only collection include Larkinville Development, the Seneca Babcock Community Block Club, City of Buffalo Fillmore District Council Member Mitchell P. Nowakowski and City of Buffalo Lovejoy District Council Member Bryan J. Bollman.

Note, no household hazardous waste will be collected at this event.  Erie County will be announcing an upcoming Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection, as well as additional Paint-Only collections, soon.

If you can’t attend a collection event, there are other options to recycle your paint. Beginning in 2019, New York State established the Postconsumer Paint Collection Program, an extended Producer Responsibly initiative requiring paint manufactures to collect, reuse, recycle and properly dispose of postconsumer paint.  To find out more go to www.erie.gov/recycling  and click on the box labeled “Recycle Leftover Paint” or go to www.paintcare.org .
