ERIE COUNTY TO HOST PAINT COLLECTION EVENT IN BUFFALO

The Erie County Department of Environment and Planning wants to help area residents to celebrate Earth Day and jump-start their spring cleaning by getting unneeded paint out of their houses and on its way to being recycled. Registration is now open for a paint-only collection event being held on Saturday, April18 in the City of Buffalo. All Erie County collection events are free, but pre-registration is required.

Registration can be completed online at www.erie.gov/recycling or by calling the Information Line at (716) 858-6800.  Appointments are limited and will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. The April 18th paint-only collection event is sponsored by GreenSheen, a company that makes new eco-friendly paint from recycled paint.  They will accept latex, oil-based and acrylic paint, stains, shellacs, lacquers, sealers, varnishes, and urethanes for recycling at this event.

Please note that no household hazardous waste will be collected at this event. Erie County will announce upcoming Household Hazardous Waste collection events and additional paint collections in the near future.

Additional sponsors of this paint-only collection include Buffalo State University, Grant Amherst Business Association, City of Buffalo, NYS Senator Jeremy J. Zellner, and UNYSE Environmental Consultants.

There are additional options to recycle paint through the New York Postconsumer Paint Collection Program.  This program requires paint manufacturers to collect, reuse, recycle and properly dispose of postconsumer paint.
