ERIE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS COMPLETES ROAD WORK ON BENNETT ROAD IN CHEEKTOWAGA

The Erie County Department of Public Works’ Highways Division has announced the completion of mill & overlay operations on Bennett Road in Cheektowaga. The project stretched on Bennett Road from Como Park to Union Road, .76 miles, and is an investment of $225,000.

“This year we are investing nearly $50 million in road projects countywide, addressing over 113 miles of county roads to provide residents and motorists with the infrastructure they expect,” said Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz. “I thank public Works Commissioner Bill Geary, Deputy Commissioner for Highways Karen Hoak and the entire DPW team for the hard work they’re doing. It’s appreciated by all in Erie County.”

The Greater Buffalo Niagara Regional Transportation Council (“GBNRTC”) scored Bennett Road as a 6 prior to work beginning. The GBNRTC surface condition rating reflects the amount of scaling, cracking, patching, raveling, and faulting on a road’s surface. The ratings of these measures are made on a one to ten scale, where one represents the “poorest” roadway condition and ten the “best” roadway condition. Pavement scores above six are considered a satisfactory pavement condition, while a score of six (fair) denotes minor deterioration. Surface scores of five and below indicate conditions that should be corrected to prevent further deterioration and the need for complete reconstruction at much higher cost.
