LEGISLATOR MILLS DELIVERS MEALS TO THE HOMEBOUND AS PART OF FEEDMORE’S MARCH FOR MEALS

Need across Erie County continues to grow

Erie County Legislator and Minority Leader John Mills helped deliver meals to the homebound as part of FeedMore WNY’s March for Meals program.  The initiative brings together government officials and community members to deliver meals while also spreading awareness of the needs in the community.

“I enjoy doing this every year.  The recipients are always appreciative of the meals provided to them and are grateful for the visit,” said Legislator Mills.  “By delivering meals it also gives us a chance to check up on those receiving them.  Often times their meal delivery is the only human connection they get that day.”

More than 5,000 older adults in Erie County are provided meals through the home delivery meals program.  That amounts to nearly 900,000 meals being delivered each year through the Meals On Wheels program of FeedMore WNY.   As the aging population in Erie County continues to grow, so does the need.  In addition, as a result of the pandemic, more seniors are concerned about leaving their homes, making the delivery of nutritious and healthy meals even more necessary.

Clients receive a ready-to-eat hot lunch and a cold dinner.  The volunteers also provide companionship to the recipients.

“I encourage those that can to volunteer delivering meals.  A greater need also means the need for more volunteers.  It’s so rewarding to help out our seniors and homebound.  I’m thankful for organizations like FeedMore that look after some of our most cherished citizens,” said Legislator Mills.
