Elma Councilman James Malczewski appointed to Erie County Legislature

(Erie County, NY) – The Erie County Legislature has appointed Elma Town Councilman James Malczewski to fill the vacancy in the Erie County Legislature’s 10th Legislative District. The appointment fills the vacancy left by newly elected

Supreme Court Judge Joseph Lorigo. Legislator Malczewski will immediately begin serving the 10th district which is made up of West Seneca, Elma, Marilla, Aurora, Wales, Colden, Holland and the Village of East Aurora.

He has served the people of Elma since 2012 as a Town Councilman and is the founder and President of Modern Decks & Railings, a small business located in the district.  As a Town Councilman in Elma, he championed the principles of common sense government that invested into community programs the public cares about while fighting to keep Elma taxes low.  He will do the same as an Erie County Legislator.  Legislator Malczewski is also very involved in the community as a youth hockey coach.

“Jim will be a great addition to the Legislature. His experience as a town official in Elma will go a long way in helping him address the many problems this county has. He truly understands the issues facing local residents and leaders and will be a strong voice for our caucus,” stated Minority Leader John Mills.

“I would like to thank the Erie County Legislature for appointing me and I look forward to serving the people of the district. This district is a unique mix of bustling suburban communities, a vibrant and growing village and rural towns. I think my experiences over the years as a councilman and a business owner are well suited to serve the residents. I understand the daily struggles people are going through and what they care about and I’m ready to take up the fight on their behalf in County Hall,” stated Legislator Jim Malczewski.

“I have worked with Jim for many years on projects in the Town of Elma and his knowledge of local infrastructure has been a strong asset for our residents. He will make a great addition to county government,” said Elma Water Superintendent Brian Fiden who has worked directly with Legislator Malczewski during his time as a Councilman.

“Jim has always provided unwavering support for the Boys and Girls Club which is how I came to admire his high level of personal conduct and integrity. I know he will be a tireless advocate for his constituents as he has been for youth programs in our community throughout his career,” said Tracey Karp-Theal, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Elma, Marilla and Wales.

“Coming from a working class background, Jim understands the infrastructure needs of our town. He will no doubt be a strong fighter for our district and I’m looking forward to working with him,” said David Gunner, Aurora Highway Superintendent.
