Erie County, NY – Erie County Legislator Jeanne Vinal, D – Town of Amherst, gave official Erie County Legislature proclamations to two Town of Amherst residents recently in honor of their achievements in their respective fields of interest.
Meghan Hall was honored by the Legislator for receiving the Carnegie-Knight News21 fellowship in Journalism. Legislator Vinal presented the proclamation at her home on May 27th. The focus of Meghan’s work will be poverty and the pandemic through a program with Arizona State University.
“I think it’s very important for our local elected leaders to recognize the good work so many of our young people are doing – Meghan is an example of someone who has worked hard, after being passed over for this honor as a Sophomore, and continued to pursue her dreams. That perseverance has clearly paid off as she was honored with the fellowship in her Junior year in college,” stated Legislator Vinal.
Similarly, the Legislator attended the SPARK Awards and honored Joan Fishburn with a proclamation. Joan was named the “Unsung Hero” Award recipient this year for her dedication to the Amherst Symphony Orchestra. She has played with the group for over 6 decades as a volunteer. Joan has also served the Amherst area in other capacities including being a member of the Glen Park Committee.
“Joan is a woman of many talents – not only is she a gifted musician, she has served on the ASO’s board and organized musical outreach to the school and various community institutions. The Town of Amherst is better for having volunteers like Joan give so selflessly to their community,” added Vinal.
