LEGISLATOR MILLS CONGRATULATES SPRINGVILLE GRIFFITH INSTITUTE STUDENTS FOR AWARD WINNING PRESENTATION

School FFA Chapter Places Second in Agricultural Issues Contest

Erie County Legislator and Minority Leader John Mills congratulated the Future Farmers of America chapter at Springville Griffith Institute for their recent success at a state competition.  The students placed second in the Agricultural Issues contest with their presentation about sustainability in the floral industry.  The group also presented to the Erie County Legislature Minority Caucus prior to the competition.

“It’s always nice to see our young people get involved.  Our farmers are so important to our region and to our country.  The organization, and by extension the competitions, help instill in the next generation the importance of the farming industry,” said Erie County Legislator and Minority Leader John Mills.  “By making their presentation before legislators they were also able to gain some understanding about how county government works.”

Legislator Mills, along with the Erie County Legislature recognized the Future Farmers of America Springville Griffith Institute Chapter for making a positive impact in the lives of young people by developing their potential for leadership, personal growth and career success through agriculture education.

“Springville has a strong and vibrant agricultural community.  These young people contribute to that, and ensure that our farming industry will continue to thrive despite many challenges,” said Legislator Mills.  “The presentation they made to us was obviously well researched.  They should be very proud of their success.”

The FFA Chapter at Springville Griffith Institute has 125 members.  The organization’s motto is “Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Farming to Live, Living to Serve.”  The participating contest members will present to three more community groups before moving on to the state portion of the competition in May.
