With the warm weather comes road construction. There is quite a bit of work being done in the 11th district that I represent. Mill and overlay work is planned for Power Road from Route 277 to the top of the hill, Jennings from Genesee to Marshfield, Mayer from Zimmerman to Feddick, Rice Road from Route 219 to Zimmerman, and Feddick Road from Belscher to Shero. In addition, there will be cold recycle with top course treatment on a portion of New Oregon Road in the town of Eden, South Abbott from Route 277 to Newton in Orchard Park and Boston, and South Feddick from Zimmerman to Belcher in the town of Boston. Crews will also oil and chip several roads in my district. These include portions of Boston-Colden Road, Langford-New Oregon Road in North Collins, South Jennings Road, Zoar Valley in Collins, Sweetland Road, Hardpan Road, Gowans Road, all in Evans, Cain Road in Brant, Hardt Road in Eden, Haag Road in Eden, and Clark Street in Hamburg. Keep an eye out for crews so they can return home safely to their families.
I always enjoy my tour of towns. When I visit each of the communities I represent and attend town board meetings, I get a chance to hear from residents about the issues that are important to you. It is a highlight of being a legislator and I appreciate your input. You are my eyes and ears as I work to ensure Erie County meets your needs and provides the services that you expect.
As we welcome summer, I hope you are able to enjoy time with family and friends. There is so much to do here. Our public parks offer many activities and opportunities to rent shelters. In addition, our public golf courses are open for you to enjoy. Our local towns and villages also embrace summer with a variety of activities. Some of these include the Brant Summer Festival on June 20 at Brant Town Park, Liberty Fest in the town of Collins on July 12, and the Village of Hamburg Garden Walk on July 12 and 13. There are plenty of celebrations planned for Independence Day, as well, including music by the Boston Town Band, along with fireworks beginning at 8pm on July 4th. There will also be the annual parade in Orchard Park on the evening of July 4th. Check out your community’s website for more events planned for this summer.
It's also a good time to remind folks that our little ones are out running around in the neighborhood. Keep an eye out for them when behind the wheel. If you have pools, be sure they are properly secured, and in the rush of your day, if you are running your children to various activities, please be sure to check the back seat. Too often we hear of little ones being left in a locked hot car.
Have a safe and happy Independence Day. If you have a county issue, contact my office at 716-858-8850 or by email at John.Mills@erie.gov
