Recognized for leadership and commitment to sportsman and environment issues
Erie County Legislator John Mills (11th District) has been presented with the Erie County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs, Inc. President’s Award. The honor is given in recognition of Legislator Mills’ ongoing efforts, leadership and commitment to issues of the ECFSC and the sportsman and outdoorsman of Erie County.
The Minority Leader was recognized for his continued efforts to promote the world class fisheries of Lake Erie, for introducing and supporting local laws and efforts to protect our most valued natural resource, fresh water, by working to stop plans to build industrial wind turbines in Lake Erie. He has also been involved in efforts in support of international border water treaties and commercial navigation.
The Minority Leader was praised by the club for supporting environmental issues impacting the natural resources and citizens of Erie County. “In my five years so far as ECFSC President, I have immensely enjoyed working with him. He has introduced legislation at the county level for some needs and helped to fund others. From banning industrial wind turbines in Lake Erie, protecting the drinking water of 11 million people, to funding Lake Erie fisheries and tourist promotion and supporting the New York State youth whitetail deer hunt for youth, John is a lion for the environment,” said Jeff Jondle, President of the ECFSC.
“I am honored and humbled to receive this award,” said Legislator Mills. “I admire the Federation’s commitment to the environment; their efforts to protect our fresh water supply, promote the great fisheries we have here, and advocate for our youth, so they can learn how to responsibly hunt and fish. The organization does so much to support what makes our region great for the outdoor enthusiast, and I thank them for this honor,” said Legislator Mills.
