TOILETRY DRIVE FOR VETERANS A SUCCESS; LEGISLATOR LORIGO DELIVERS DONATIONS TO VET ORGANIZATION

Erie County Legislator Lindsay Lorigo wrapped up her veteran’s toiletry drive, collecting dozens of boxes of donated items, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, towels, washcloths, deodorant, first aid kits and beanie hats.  The items were then delivered to the Concord Veteran Care Project and its founder and director, Jessica Steele.

“I am so grateful to the many residents who dropped off donations for our veterans.  I am always moved, but never surprised by the kindness and generosity of this community.  Helping our veterans, who have sacrificed a great deal for us, is so important. These items will be distributed to both retired and active service members,” said Legislator Lorigo.

Dropoff locations included many libraries, senior and community centers, an American Legion, and several schools.  The 4th Grade Lighthouse Club at Allendale Elementary organized the drive at their school, serving as a great learning experience for students.

“When we can involve our young people with such worthwhile efforts, we teach them, at a young age, the importance of giving back.  These kids did a phenomenal job in helping to gather donated items for the veterans,” said Legislator Lorigo.

Legislator Lorigo and Jessica Steele are working with local and national organizations to distribute these items to local veterans, some of whom are at risk of homelessness, as well as to actively deployed service members.

“Again, I want to thank all of those who took the time to buy some needed items and drop them off at one of our collection sites.  Your efforts helped to make this toiletry drive a great success,” said Legislator Lorigo.
