LEGISLATOR LORIGO OPPOSES BAD-FOR-BUSINESS LEGISLATION BEING PUSHED IN ALBANY

Erie County Legislator Lindsay Lorigo introduced a resolution opposing state legislation that unduly burdens the hospitality industry. The law will force employers to account for every minute that a tipped employee works in a different role. This is not only cumbersome, but also unfairly targets small businesses that may lack the resources to accurately track these changes.

“Employees in the hospitality industry often work more than one role on any particular shift. The laws put forth by the Senate and Assembly Democrats would require employers to track every minute that each tipped employee works in a different position. It’s overly burdensome and unfair to employers,” said Legislator Lorigo.

The laws not only make operating a business less efficient for employers, but they will also hurt employees who may get stuck in one specific role.

“This is another example of New York State complicating the lives of hardworking business owners. These new regulations unfairly burden the backbone of our community—small business owners who operate on modest budgets without the resources to adapt to the ever-changing whims of Albany politicians. It's unnecessary, unfair, and adds further challenges for employers in these already difficult times. Let's protect our small businesses from excessive government interference and instead, do everything we can to help them thrive,” said Legislator Lorigo.
