Tonawanda Man Receives Split Sentence for Stabbing Victim Outside Tavern

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that 30-year-old Zachery S. Meer of Tonawanda was sentenced this morning before Acting Erie County Court Judge Andrew C. LoTempio to six months in jail followed by five years of probation. 

On Sunday, June 11, 2023, at approximately 11:40 p.m., the defendant caused physical injuries to the victim by stabbing him in the torso with a knife. The crime occurred during an altercation on the patio outside of a tavern on the 1800 block of Colvin Boulevard in the Town of Tonawanda. The victim, a 29-year-old male, was taken by ambulance to ECMC where he was treated for a stab wound.

Meer pleaded guilty to one count of Assault in the Second Degree (Class ā€œDā€ felony), the highest sustainable charge, in March 2024. 

Today, a final order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim, which remains in effect until June 2029. 

Acting DA Keane commends the Town of Tonawanda Police Department for their work in this investigation.  

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Peter M. Pinelli of the Felony Trials Bureau.
