Three Colombian Nationals Sentenced for Burglarizing Amherst Home

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that 29-year-old Carlos David Chaparro-Jaimes of Los Angeles, California and 34-year-old Christian Camilo Garcia Guzman of San Jose, California were sentenced yesterday afternoon before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case to 364 days in jail. Due to their time in pre-trial confinement, their sentences have been served. Both defendants will be transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to face deportation to Colombia due to their felony convictions. 

Last month, their co-defendant 36-year-oldJohanna P. Parra-Morales of Los Angeles, California was before Judge Case to time served. She was also transferred to ICE custody for deportation. 

On June 26, 2023, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Amherst Police responded to the area of Rumson Road for a reported residential burglary in progress after receiving a 911 call from a neighbor. Chaparro-Jaimes and Garcia Guzman broke into the home through a rear door, stole various personal items and exited through the front door before fleeing in a vehicle driven by Parra-Morales.

Responding offers saw the suspect vehicle nearby and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The vehicle, driven by Parra-Morales, crashed into a parked vehicle after a brief pursuit. After the collision, the three defendants ran from the vehicle in an attempt to evade arrest, but were taken into custody. Defendant Officers recovered jewelry and other personal items that were reported stolen from the victim’s home. All three defendants, who are Colombian nationals, were held without bail. 

On November 1, 2023, Chaparro-Jaimes, Garcia Guzman and Parra-Morales pleaded guilty to one count of Burglary in the Second Degree (Class “C” felony). All three defendants pleaded guilty to the highest count in the indictment against them.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Nicholas Marino and William Fitzgerald of the Felony Trials Bureau.
