Statement from District Attorney Mike Keane

“The Erie County District Attorney’s Office extends our congratulations to Deputy District Attorney Mara L. McCabe who has been appointed by Governor Kathy Hochul to serve as a New York State Court of Claims Judge.

Mara McCabe has prosecuted countless criminal cases during her more than 20-year career, including crimes against children while assigned to the office’s Special Victims Unit. Prior to her appointment as Deputy District Attorney, she served as a Chief in the Buffalo City Court and Felony Trials bureaus where she trained newly appointed Assistant District Attorneys in all phases of prosecution, trial preparation and victim advocacy.

For the past several years, Deputy DA McCabe has been responsible for legal training both inside and outside the office. In 2020, she received the “Law Enforcement Achievement Award” from the Erie County Law Enforcement Foundation Award for her dedicated work to prepare prosecutors and police for criminal justice reforms. In addition to implementing new protocols and procedures within our office, she provided training to local law enforcement agencies and participated in statewide committees to offer guidance on bail, discovery and other criminal justice legislation.

Mara McCabe is truly deserving of this opportunity. Her extensive legal experience, her commitment to uphold the law and dedication to the pursuit of justice make her an ideal judiciary candidate who will serve with integrity, fairness, and a balanced perspective. We are grateful for her many years of dedicated service to this office and the People of Erie County. I wish her well in this next phase of her legal career.”
