Springville Man Indicted for Child Sexual Abuse

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Joseph F. Decker, 65, of Springville, was arraigned this morning before Erie County Court Judge Suzanne Maxwell Barnes on an indictment charging him with one count of Predatory Sexual Assault Against a Child (Class A-II felony), one count of Course of Sexual Conduct Against a Child (Class B violent felony), one count of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree (Class D violent felony) and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class A misdemeanor).

It is alleged that between on or about June 20, 2024, and on or about September 19, 2025, the defendant engaged in acts of sexual conduct with a child who was less than 13-years-old at a location in the Village of Springville. The defendant was known to the victim.

Decker was held without bail. Temporary orders of protection were issued on behalf of the victim and other associated parties. A return court date has not been scheduled at this time.

If convicted of the highest charge, Decker faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

DA Keane commends Detective Richard Lundberg and Erie County Sheriff’s Office Investigative Services Unit for their work in this investigation as well as victim advocate Nicole Haffa.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Meredith M. Mohun of the Special Victims Bureau.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
